NEWS LETTER FOR 2017

The dancing and short mat bowls have had a successful year again. This year they are having a trip on the river at Chester.

The bingo club have also had a very successful year.  This year the Club raised enough money to take the members on a day out to Llangollen and  a snack stop at the Ponderosa at the head of the Horseshoe Pass. Fantastic scenery throughout the trip with the sun shining all day.  We must save up for another one in 2018. The 50/50 Charity donated £442 for Guide Dogs for the Blind in the first half of 2017.  The second half of the year is to be donated to Christies Hospital for Cancer Research.

The Christmas Fair, Quiz and Kids Disco are all planned for December.

NEWS LETTER FOR 2016

All weekly events have had increased members this year.  The dancing and bowling members again held their Christmas Dinner at the Ffrith Bowling Club in November.  The bingo members chose their early 2017 dinner at Crofts on January 20.  Both events were very enjoyable.

December was a very busy month, starting with a quiz in the Farmers, a Christmas Fair in the Canolfan, culminating with a Disco there for the local youngsters.  Approximately 60 kids had a really great time at this, a repeat of last year.

Bingo has raised money this year as follows: Local Animal Rescue £200, British Heart Foundation £200, Cancer Research £160 and MacMillan Nurses £160.  Air Ambulance and St Kentigens received £250 each and Guide Dogs for the Blind £442.

The long running Sunday Tea Parties for the Elderly has been joined up with the Gronant Community group this year as Janet our local popular and hardworking organiser is to leave the village soon. These Sunday tea parties can be the only chance for some of our local lonely or disabled elderly people to meet up  with old friends and meet new ones for a lovely gossip over tea and cakes or hot snacks and has proved to be vey popular over many years.

The bad news for Ffynnongrowy is that Gronant will be unable to run these Tea Parties here  from the end of 2016.  Volunteers are urgently needed to take over - just one Sunday afternoon a month.  If you feel you could help please contact us.

The Community Centre is continuing to be a popular venue for birthday parties.

NEWSLETTER 2014

A quiet year. The Craft Club was doing pretty well but has now finished due to the organiser being unwell.

All other events continue as normal.

The Christmas Fair profits were donated to Hope House Children's Hospice as was the 50/50 raffle run by the Bingo Group (see Home Page).

NEWSLETTER : 2013

This is our third newsletter.  We have had another good year with lots of work done.

Fund Raising events arranged by the Committee, together with the weekly hire of the Centre for Sequence Dancing , Indoor Bowls,  the Community Cafe, and Friday Night Cash Bingo, together with the various special bookings such as birthdays, have helped to keep the Community Centre solvent in these increasingly hard times.  This has enabled us to support Fun4Kids, Mums & Tots and the monthly Sunday Afternoon Tea Parties for the more elderly locals.

The Summer Monthly Attic Sales did very well but ceased with the end of the holiday season.

The Christmas Fair and later Jumble Sale were very successful, despite the terrible weather on the day of the Jumble Sale.

INVITED SPEAKERS:

Harry Thomas  was a sell-out with his films of Old Ffynnongroyw.

Captain Brian Luke gave a very interesting talk on his life as a Master on P&O Liners.

Brian, due to popular acclaim, has promised to come back later in the year.

These fund raising events paid for the material to paint most of the Centre (the actual work being done by volunteers); new blinds to replace the very grotty curtains which had shrunk drastically in the wash, a new cooker, table coverings, and much more.

None of this could be done without the support of the people of Ffynnongroyw, it is of course your Centre.

CHRISTMAS FAIR 2012

Grateful thanks are given to everyone who helped to make the Christmas Fair such a success - the Committee, friends, visitors, contributors to the raffle, and of course Father Christmas. We are happy to say that we made  £334.25.

2011/2012

The recent jumble sale raised £224.00 which was shared equally between the MacMillan Nurses and St Kentigens.  Thanks to all who contributed to this event.

The Social Evening of September 3 was a resounding success.  This was repeated as a Hot Pot Supper on November 19 and was again a super evening.  Roll on the next!!!

The Christmas Fair was again a good day, with a visit by Santa for the kiddies and a good selection of goodies on the tables.  Thanks to all who helped.  Photos can be seen on the Christmas Fair link at top of this page.

The Keep Well Club has unfortunately closed.

On Tuesday, 12th June 2012 Ffynnongroyw Community Centre and the Delyn Heritage Society jointly hosted an evening of “Memories of Old Ffynnongroyw” in the Ffynnongroyw Canalfon, at which Harry Thomas presented two films:  “Ffynnongroyw – The Forgotten Village” (a 1977 documentary film) and “1967 Point of Ayr Colliery Open Day”. Harry, well known to many, shared memories of his life in Ffynnongroyw and showed a selection of his immense collection of postcards of Ffynnongroyw, also donating a selection as raffle prizes.  The evening was enjoyed by a capacity audience.

An Attic and Craft Fair was held monthly over the Summer of 2012.  This has been put on hold for the time being following the end of the holiday period.

We had put in a bid for a Big Lottery grant for help in getting local housebound back into society.  Unfortunately we were unlucky on this occasion.  Maybe next time!!
